All Right! Who’s up for a night of movies, buttered popcorn, your favorite candy and ice cold slushies? A show of hands please. Yeah, just what I thought, pretty much everyone is. I doubt we will ever get tired of America’s greatest national treasure, watching new released movies. Whether it’s in the comfort of our own homes, or in the local movie theater, we are in love with watching movies. But wait a minute! As with most good things, there is a bad side or two. Have you ever noticed that most of the movie review guys are over-weight? What do you think you would look like if you went to every new release movie and ate all of that buttery popcorn and calorie laden candy? Can you say Big Fat Fatty? I guess a good Hollywood film is worth a little fat.

Always suspicious of being watched for my own protection, I often wonder what everyday life in a police state might be like. Certainly we can gather nuggets of insight on a visit to an airport or courthouse, or enjoy a depressing civics lessons from the Key West Building Department. But I’m talking about the details of day-to-day life in a total surveillance state. That’s harder to imagine.

A trip to the cinema needn’t cost a packet - there are plenty of steps that you can take to save on cinema tickets, meaning that you can enjoy the entertainment that’s on offer without sitting there worrying about the damage that’s being done to your bank balance.
Going to watch a movie is one of the most popular forms of entertainment for many people here in the UK. Most major cities have large multi-screen cinemas, often incorporated as part of leisure complexes that have been built on a grand scale. It’s clear to see that cinemas mean big business.
The cost of actually going to watch a film at the cinema has been steadily increasing, with prices now looking pretty steep in some parts of the country, notably in London.

Digital cable and high definition are great, but cable companies want you to buy pay-per-view services and they are very willing to annoy their customers if it means a few more sales. They do this not just by listing these services every chance they get in program guides but by putting extra buttons on your remote in places where you are certain to bump them by accident quite frequently. Which may mean you miss some of your favorite show trying to get back to what you were watching, given the slow response time. Usually they slap on more than one such button, despite the fact that getting to the pay per view listings through your menus is also made far more than just convenient: also past the point of being annoying, in fact.

There is a powerful cast member that has a role in the Star Wars trilogy that is as ever present as any other of the characters we meet. This character is one who has an influence on everything that went on in the Star Wars saga. And yet, this cast member had no lines, didn’t get a costume or ever appear on screen. But we sure knew when this character was active in the development of the adventure. That powerful character was only referred to as THE FORCE.

Summer of 2007, and Hollywood seems to be mesmerized by the number 3 - they seem to be adding it to the end of all the films…
After all there’s Shrek 3, Spiderman 3, Jason Bourne 3, Die Hard 4, Rocky 5!
Er, ok maybe those last 2 don’t count, but why the rash of number 3s?
Money of course!
Hollywood exists to make money pure and simple, so if a film is a huge success, it’s only good business to make a sequel - in fact it would be shockingly bad business if they didn’t!

Comments on some horror movies I’ve seen
Disturbia
More thriller than horror, but I’m reviewing it anyway. This is like a teen version of Hitchcock’s “Rear Window.” Some teens think they witness a murder in the neighbor’s house. No surprises in the plot, but this movie was actually better than I thought it would be.
Grade: 3 out of 5
The Wig
Middle of the road Asian horror about a haunted wig. Soon a girl who has lost her hair in chemotherapy gets the wig, and bad things start happening. This ridiculous story is handled very seriously, and that saves the movie. Some suspenseful moments, but not enough.
